WOW – it has been and continues to be a mad couple of weeks but I thought instead of the usual diatribe about this and that I would show you what I have been up to in terms of training and conditioning for rugby.
Last week I was in Stockholm brushing up my neuromuscular therapy skills with a Lower Extremity Active Release Course. For those of you who don’t know ART for short is a cutting edge (but brutally simple) way of enhancing length and motion in ‘stuck’, ‘tight’ or ‘adhered’ muscle groups. It has been used for years in the US with NFL, NBA and NHL players.
Since I have been home I have seen ridiculous results with it – released neural tension (which means more strength), less pain, instant improvements in flexibility. It is now a vital tool in my toolbox. Believe me when I say rugby players could really do with this. Get access to your nearest provider and use them.
It was 5 days of crappy food and hotel rooms and very long days. I was aware this was going to be how it rolled so the bulk of my training was done just before I left. Any way once back this is how it went
Monday
Deadlift – Worked up to 145kg for 3 reps which felt easy so busted out 160kg for an easy single and stopped there – felt strong.
I actually stopped the session there as my time was cut short with family committments. I was happy though as I felt a massive improvement since last week.
Tuesday
Safety Bar Reverse Lunge – 4 sets of 8 worked up to 70kg.
Pull Ups super setted with Incline BB Press 4 sets of 8 each set worked up to 50kg on the Incline Press. At the moment the strength is coming back into the pec that I injured earlier this year. With the ART treatment I has come on again in strength as the nerves and other tissues now have a chance to express themselves!!
Friday- crap nights sleep but got into it.
Front Squat – worked up to 85kg for 3 reps – no increase from last week which was a bit disappointing. Anyway got stuck into the assistance work
Press Ups with a Twist 4 sets of 8 reps with 8kg paired with Reverse Hyperextensions for sets of 12.
I am happy with the training I am doing at the moment. I am slowly tightening up with the nutrition as my schedule is all over the place but I am back on it as of the 5th. The reason being is we are moving premises at the moment and it is like moving home. I am very excitied but boy is there a lot of work to do!
Have a great week.
Another reason why we are so busy is that we are putting the finishing touches to my new product
Nutrition for Rugby. I am excited about this. There is a lot of conflicting information about Nutrition for Rugby Players and really is is quite simple. I also have some awesome easy to implement strategies especially for rugby players to share with the product. Think of it like a consultation with me! Here is some more information on the product Click here. It goes live next week.
